Telcordia requests a Special Temporary Authority (STA) in order to demonstrate and evaluate mobility technologies in the 3.5 GHz bands. We intend to operate the equipment for a duration of less than 6 months and research results are intended to be exported internationally.

Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
We endeavor to research broadband wireless communications networks operating in the 3.5GHz band. In particular, our research aims evaluate new and innovative mobility technologies that enable mobile devices to establish and maintain communications links with network infrastructure while on the move. Our research will assess the ability of such techniques to meet the unique demands of mobile devices and network services proposed for broadband wireless networks emerging in the 3.5Ghz bands, such as those networks commonly referred to as WiMAX.

Please explain the purpose of operation:
Since the research project is dependent upon the transmission and reception of radio signals in the 3.5 GHz band, the above requested equipment is essential. Existing communications facilities do not offer radio transmission and reception functionality within the 3.5 GHz band, and as such, would be insufficient to meet the needs of the research project.
