Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation requests an urgent three-month experimental STA to conduct critical certification testing of new IFF Transponder P.2 software on the APX-119-0547 Digital Transponder for all IFF modes. Testing will be ground based mobile within 4.5 km and airborne within an 80 km radius of Edwards AFB supporting US DoD CRADA. All IFF identification systems using the new this IFF standard must be certified by the US DoD AIMS Program Office. Ground testing for the program was previously approved under STA File No. 1080-EX-ST-2026 at the NG Palmdale facility.

Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation requests an urgent three-month experimental STA to conduct ground based mobile and airborne critical certification testing of new IFF Transponder P.2 software on the APX-119-0547 Digital Transponder for all IFF modes. Testing will be airborne and and mobile ground taxi and will be conducted at Edwards AFB supporting US DoD CRADA. All IFF identification systems using the new this IFF standard must be certified by the US DoD AIMS Program Office.
