Kentucky Utilities is working with the Federal Aviation Administration and OCAS_AS(of Norway) for testing a new lighting system for improving the safety to air navigation. a experimental form 442 has been submitted, file #0142-EX-PL-2004. i have been informed it will not complete the approval process prior to the FAA observed testing date of October 4, 2004.

to test a new radar controlled lighting and audio system for improving the safety to air navigation. in particular obstruction marking and lighting of power lines. the radar picks up approaching aircraft and turns on the strobe lights to warn pilots of an obstruction. if the aircraft does not take evasive actions and continues to approach the obstruction then a audio message will be transmitted to the aircraft alerting them of pending danger. the radar and radio coverage is limited in area.
