Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of frequencies 2367 and 2384 MHz for video coverage of New Years Eve and related activities at Times Square, New York, NY. This request is for the period from December 30, 2004 through January 2, 2005. Broad Comm provides radio-frequency support services to broadcasters and broadcast network entities for coverage of major events. The FCC has granted Broad Comm and others similar requests for several previous events. Broad Comm requests authority to use these frequencies to permit use of portable video camera transmitters that operate in the 2.3GHz frequency band. Hardware limitations prevent operation of these cameras in spectrum reserved for broadcast auxiliary operations. Additionally, operation of these low power transmitters (1-watt) on broadcast auxiliary frequencies is not spectrally efficient considering the possible need for spectrum by local broadcasters to cover the event. Coordination from AFTRCC has been requested and will be provided prior to this event.
