Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of 1470 MHz, 1490 MHz, 2367 MHz and 2384 MHz for the purpose of providing coverage of the New York City Marathon and the events associated with the Marathon. This request is for the period of November 2 through November 5 2006. Broad Comm provides radio-frequency support services to broadcasters and broadcast network entities for coverage of major events. The FCC has granted Broad Comm and others similar requests for several previous events. Broad Comm requests authority to use these frequencies to permit use of portable video camera transmitters that operate in the 1.4 GHz and 2.3 GHz frequency bands. Hardware limitations prevent operation of these cameras in spectrum reserved for broadcast auxiliary operations. Additionally, operation of these low power transmitters (1-watt) on broadcast auxiliary frequencies is not spectrally efficient considering the possible need for spectrum by local broadcasters to cover the event. Coordination from AFTRCC has been requested and obtained for this event. In addition, the use of 500.250 to 505.750 MHz (within TV channel 19). and 506.250 to 511.750 MHz (within TV channel 20) is also being requested. These frequencies will be used to provide provide logistical support and aural coverage for this event. A search of the FCC televison database shows no full service TV station on channel 19 within 200 km from the proposed area of operation and the distance to the nearest LPTV is 162.7 km. On channel 20 the nearest full service TV station is 133.8 km from the proposed site and the nearest LPTV station is a CP authorization 91.6 km from the proposed site. In addition, the site is 136.9 km from the nearest land mobile reservations on channels 19 and 20. No interference to existing televison or land mobile operations is anticiapted due to the low power proposed for this use (maximum 25 watts ERP) and antenna height (< 6 m).
