Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of frequencies in the range 494.5 to 499.5 MHz (In TV channel 18) for the purpose of providing coverage of the New York City Marathon and the events associated with the Marathon. This request is for the period of November 4 through November 6 2005. Broad Comm provides radio-frequency support services to broadcasters and broadcast network entities for coverage of major events. The FCC has granted Broad Comm and others similar requests for several previous events. No interference to exisitng teelvison service is anticipated in that it is our understanding that the nearby television station WMBC Newton, NJ DTV channel 18 is not currently operating. In addition due to the low power proposed for the requested frequencies (25 watts ERP maximum) and the 0.5 MHz guard band proposed to protect operation on TV channels 17 and 19 no interference is expected to be caused on those channels. These frequencies are needed because the demand for spectrum to cover such an event exceeds the spectrum currently authorized for such use in this area.
