a) The INTELSAT Technical Labs has put together a transportable C—band
terminal for transmission of high quality video signals in satellite news gathering
applications, using the technique of "store—and—forward." Video signals encoded
at 1.5 to 2 Mbits/s are stored transmitted at 64 or 128 kbits/s using a small 1.2 m
C—band antenna with a 5—watt SSPA.

b) This allows "near live" transmissions from anywhere in the world and may
become an attractive service to TV networks. This terminal will be used for
different experimental evaluations and demonstrations over the next two years at
various fora and future relevant trade shows, as the interest increases.

C) The program of experimentation promises to be a source for a potential
service in INTELSAT system, catering to the need of broadcasters to deploy a
quick global satellite news gathering system in case of special events in remote
areas where existing news gathering systems are not feasible or economical.
