Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of four VHF frequencies for support and logistics for the Red Bull Air Race World Series 2017 event at San Diego, CA from April 11 through April 16, 2017. This is a very large and potentially hazardous event for the pilots and the many thousands of attendees. Public Safety concerns are paramount at events of this magnitude, where coordination and communications have been issues in the past and the consequences have been tragic. Good communications is key to minimizing the risks to the public and the pilots. The four requested frequencies were engineered and coordinated by the FAA and a copy of the coordination is attached.
