Class of Station:
FX
Nature of Service:
Experimental

Special Temporary Authority application - Initial values - Purpose of Operation

Please explain the purpose of operation:
AMPS is an aircraft protection system that uses both ground and air components to defeat MANPADS attacks. Ground sensors monitor the protected area for active missiles and report any threats to an AMPS Ground Subsystem. The AMPS-GS uses a radio frequency (RF) data link to transmit threat alerts to aircraft that are in the protected area. For this phase of the program, ATK, Inc. will not be using real aircraft, but using a Remote Test Range for housing the AMPS Airborne Subsystem. The RF communication is the key to AMPS testing.
