Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of the frequencies 1450, 1460, 1470, 1480, 2367 and 2384 MHz and 476.25 to 481.75 MHz (in TV channel 15) for the purpose of providing portable video and logistic support for the televised network coverage of the Boston Marathon in the Boston, MA area from the period of April 16 through April 28, 2009. Broad Comm provides radio frequency support services to broadcasters and broadcast network entities for coverage of major events. The FCC has granted Broad Comm and others similar requests for several previous events. Broad Comm requests authority to use the 1.4 and 2.3 GHz frequencies to permit use of portable video camera transmitters that operate in the 2 GHz frequency band. Hardware limitations prevent operation of these cameras in spectrum reserved for broadcast auxiliary operations. Additionally, operation of these low power transmitters (1.0 W) on broadcast auxiliary frequencies is not spectrally efficient considering the possible need for spectrum by local broadcasters to cover the event. AFTRCC coordination has been requested and received for this event. Multiple units are requested due the number of media staff that will require coordination.
