Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of frequencies in the 2 GHz range as well as in TV channel 19 for the purpose of providing portable video and logistics support for the televised network coverage of the Northern Trust Open golf event and related activities at the Riviera Country Club 1250 Capri Drive Pacific Palisades, CA for the period of February 1 through February 20, 2010. Broad Comm provides radio frequency support services to broadcasters and broadcast network entities for coverage of major events. The FCC has granted Broad Comm and others similar requests for several previous events. Broad Comm requests authority to use these frequencies to permit use of portable video camera transmitters that operate in the 1-2 GHz frequency bands. Hardware limitations prevent operation of these cameras in spectrum reserved for broadcast auxiliary operations. Additionally, operation of these low power transmitters (1.0 W) on broadcast auxiliary frequencies is not spectrally efficient considering the possible need for spectrum by local broadcasters to cover the event. AFTRCC coordination has been requested and received for this event for those frequencies under the jurisdiction of AFTRCC. The large number of requested frequencies is due to the magnitude of this event.
